Meet the U.S. Attorney
Bruce D. Brandler Acting U.S. Attorney Acting U.S. Attorney Brandler
Bruce D. Brandler was appointed Acting United States Attorney for the Middle District of Pennsylvania on January 2, 2021. Mr. Brandler previously served as First Assistant United States Attorney between November 27th, 2017, and January 1, 2021. Between October 2, 2016 and November 26, 2017, Mr. Brandler served as the United States Attorney for the District.
Mr. Brandler began his legal career as an Assistant District Attorney in the King’s County District Attorney’s Office in Brooklyn, New York, where he served from 1981 until 1985.
From 1985 until 1986, Mr. Brandler was the Deputy Chief and then Chief Investigative Counsel for the New York State Senate Committee on Investigations, Taxation, and Government Operations in New York City.
Mr. Brandler was appointed an Assistant U.S. Attorney for the Middle District of Pennsylvania in 1986 and was promoted to Senior Litigation Counsel in 1992 and Chief of the Criminal Division in 2014. He served as Chief of the Criminal Division until his appointment as United States Attorney on October 2, 2016. During his tenure as an Assistant United States Attorney, he specialized in complex white-collar fraud prosecutions and high-profile public corruption cases.
Mr. Brandler graduated from Stony Brook University and received a B.A. in Political Science with honors in 1978, and was inducted into the Phi Beta Kappa honor society. He received his law degree in 1981 from the Boston University School of Law.
