Meet the U.S. Attorney
Carlton S. Shier, IV, Acting United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Kentucky
Carlton S. Shier, IV was named Acting United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Kentucky on January 24, 2021. Mr. Shier has served as the First Assistant United States Attorney since April of 2013 and joined the United States Attorney’s Office in 2010, as Chief of the office’s Civil Division. Mr. Shier previously served as Acting United States Attorney from January to November of 2017.
Prior to joining the United States Attorney’s Office, Mr. Shier served as the Deputy General Counsel of the Kentucky Cabinet for Health and Family Services. Mr. Shier also spent several years as a Kentucky prosecutor, both with the Kentucky Attorney General’s Office and the Fayette County Attorney’s Office, and was in the private practice of law, concentrating on commercial litigation. A Lexington native, Mr. Shier graduated from Centre College and received an M.S., in Justice Administration, and a J.D., from the University of Louisville.
