Meet the U.S. Attorney Fred J. Frederici Fred J. Federici Acting United States Attorney District of New Mexico
Fred J. Federici is the Acting U.S. Attorney for the District of New Mexico. Mr. Federici became Acting U.S. Attorney on January 3, 2021. As Acting U.S. Attorney, Mr. Federici serves as the top federal law enforcement official in New Mexico. He is also responsible for representing the interests of the United States in civil cases.
Mr. Federici is a career prosecutor who has dedicated his professional life to public service. Mr. Federici has served in the United States Attorney’s Office for more than 25 years. Mr. Federici began his career as a federal prosecutor in the Las Cruces Branch office of the U.S. Attorney’s Office in 1995, where he primarily prosecuted drug crimes arising along the border. In 2000, Mr. Federici transferred to Albuquerque, where he specialized in prosecuting white collar crimes. During his time at the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Mr. Federici has held several leadership positions, including First Assistant U.S. Attorney, Chief of the Criminal Division, supervisor of the White Collar Crime Section, and supervisor of the National Security Section.
Before joining the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Mr. Federici worked for four years as a litigation associate at the firm Venable, Baetjer, Howard & Civiletti in Washington D.C., where he specialized in complex civil litigation. Mr. Federici graduated from the University of Virginia School of Law in 1991, and he received his Bachelor of Arts degree from the College of William & Mary in 1988.
