FORT LAUDERDALE — With three Fort Lauderdale commissioners stepping down in the middle of their terms, their seats came up for grabs two years before their time — and 15 candidates flocked to fill them.
On Tuesday night, John Herbst had a big lead in the District 1 race; Pamela Beasley-Pittman was way ahead in District 3; and Warren Sturman was narrowly edging out rivals in District 4, the most crowded race of all with seven candidates.
“It’s not a done deal yet,” Sturman told the South Florida Sun Sentinel while watching the results come in. “But it looks like I’m ahead on the early vote. I have a good feeling, but I’m still nervous.”
